Слова песни the last

During the seventh episode of BTS’s docu-drama Burn The Stage (2018), Yoongi states:

When i’m out doing casual stuff, I still feel anxious about crowds."

In an interview with Naver on the same year, the artist shares:

"Anxiety and loneliness seem to be with me for life. I put a lot of meaning on how I would work it out, but it seems like I have to study it for my entire life. Emotions are so different in every situation and every moment, so I think to agonize every moment is what life is. By the lyrics [from The Last], I wanted to tell people: ‘I am anxious, so are you, so let’s find the way and study the way together.’"

As found in other songs, like Seesaw, Yoongi has a problem with comparing himself to others and believes that his own abilities sometimes do not match others’

A few years down the line, the artist realizes this comparation is contra-productive and unnecessary. He also classifies his passion as “dead” (non-existent or wasted by now) which can be linked to his song “So Far Away” where he states:

"It’s really a fucked up to not have something you want to do I know that it seems pathetic To not have a dream like everyone"

While the part is censored out with a beep in the song, the lyrics are likely about the doctor asking Yoongi if he’s ever tried to kill himself or self-harm. It’s a question any doctor would ask a patient who has depression, but because talking about suicide in Korea is so taboo – not to mention hard for a person who has been suicidal to mention, even in a song – the words are censored out. However, Yoongi challenges the stigma by announcing “without any hesitation” that he has self-harmed and/or survived a suicide attempt.

In 2015 there was an incident in Kobe, Japan where Suga and Jungkook were in hospital and couldn’t perform due to injuries. Suga allegedly had a serious panic attack and felt serious guilt for not being able to perform.

Suga has expressed multiple times that he is a people-pleaser, which he also expresses here. If what he is doing makes himself unhappy but brings joy to others, he will keep suffering to please others.

As referenced in the latter line, Yoongi was ashamed of his idol role. Rappers in many idol groups are dogged for their bad skills and lack of life experience. Since this was the case, he denied who he was.

Suga was often criticized for choosing not to appear on “Show me the money” which is a Korean show where rappers compete and showcase their skills.

He clarified why he chose not to appear in the show by saying that it’s not that he couldn’t he didn’t, meaning he could’ve gone on the show if he wanted but he felt it was unnecessary to try and prove his rapping skills to others based off a show.

While a trainee, Yoongi began working as a newspaper delivery boy however, one day while delivering, he was stuck by a car and permanently damaged his shoulder.

When BTS first started many of them had other opportunities to “quick fame”. Many of the vocalists were scouted by big companies, the dancers were set to be professionals, and the rappers (including Yoongi) were making a name for themselves in the underground rap world. None of them took those opportunities though and stayed with BTS because they wanted to make content they were proud of and BigHit gave them that freedom. Even if this meant having to work harder than most. Many rappers say that Yoongi and RM “sold themselves out” because they “couldn’t resist the temptation” of being idols instead of working their way to the top in the rap world. Here Yoongi is saying it’s not that we couldn’t have each become famous from these opportunities. It’s that we didn’t want to.
