Бог Шива — это контрасты: созерцание и действие, созидание и разрушение, гнев и милость. В его образе объединено множество аспектов, что и неудивительно, ведь он считается Абсолютом, а в Абсолюте есть всё. Он Махайог — «великий йогин», а также Натарадж — «король танца», но также и Мритьюнджай — «побеждающий смерть», восседающий на троне горы Кайлас в тибетских Гималаях.
Ведическая Троица, иначе называемая Тримурти, состоит из трёх богов: Брахмы, Вишну и Шивы, где Брахма выступает как творец, Вишну — как хранитель, а Шива в роли разрушителя. Это настоящая Троица ведизма, и всё-таки они неразделимы, это различные проявления единого.

The Vedic Trinity, otherwise known as Trimurti, consists of three gods: Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, where Brahma acts as a creator, Vishnu as a keeper, and Shiva as a destroyer. This is the real Trinity of Vedism, and yet they are inseparable, they are different manifestations of the one.
