Машет вьюга по-над крышей
Снеговым крылом.
Крикни в голос - кто услышит? -
Степь да степь кругом.
Огонёк в окне не светит,
Сколько ни топи.
Да и кто его приметит
В той глухой степи?
Не видать милого друга,
Что тоску лечил -
Он в степи, под песни вьюги,
Крепким сном почил.
Помолясь усердно Богу
В путь отправился,
Всё хотел найти дорогу,
Да преставился.
И теперь с него довольно,
Так же, как с меня -
И не страшно, и не больно,
И не жаль коня,
И не грустно, и не скучно,
И в глазах покой -
Колокольчик однозвучный
Смолкнул под дугой.
Тут слезами не поможешь,
Горькой не зальёшь.
Что ж зазря себя тревожишь,
В тьме просвета ждёшь?
Жди-пожди, авось, дождёшься -
Прояснится путь,
До порога доплетёшься
Рысью, как-нибудь.
