Phil, where are you finding this crap? LOL
Your literal translation is good, you just missed few things:
«Заливать глаза» is Russian idiom, it means “to get drunk, very drunk”, «накеросиниться (напиться керосина)» - the same meaning. So, the first line basically means that she was stinky drunk like a skunk LOL
«Пусть всё горит [синим пламенем]» is an idiom as well, something like “everything can go to hell”
«Отсидеть срок» => do time, «выйти» - get out of prison. They just playing with words here
Золотые цепи - most likely - jewelry, thick gold chains, symbol of luxury (it’s like ‘what the heck am I doing in this swamp?’) , but your version also makes sense
Кровь моя чище чистых наркотиков —> blood is more pure than drugs
Вместе с другими тебя скрутят на площади —> скрутят here means ‘subdue’, like cops will arrest them for public intoxication
А я скручу со своей новой жилплощади —> but here she will roll a joint (скрутит косяк)
May these lyrics never be immortal too
Don’t spend a lot of time “fixing” them
Thanks Iggy! So, the police car really DID run over the cat?! I thought THAT had some special hidden meaning. Guess it's just a dead cat. LOL But, no worries. This song will never be "immortalized". As for where I find this "crap"? LOL I'm trying to rack up LT points so I can get an award. I think I get one point for every song I translate, no matter how innocuous it may be. I find them on the "translation help" feed. You can find a lot of stuff there. Not to worry, I'll stay away from attempting to translate any of Russia's beloved poets ever again. I've been relegated to transcribing the crap pile. Hugs.
сб, 08/12/2018 - 06:35It DID, but I would’ve used “but” instead of “and”. she wanted to pet a cat, but there there’s no cat, ‘cause cops killed him
Anyway, I guess I just got my certification as an expert in drugs and alcohol related problems
Next time I will charge you for a consultation
Oh Iggy. Your services in translating Russian drug-related terms is well worth an award, and a reception banquet! Kudos on your award. You deserved it!
сб, 08/12/2018 - 05:29M,
I swear I needed your comments - it was like reading a foreign language. Crap it is.
Phil,
Nobody puts baby in the corner. You choose what you translate. I noticed I also began to rush publishing. If I didn't, I'd spend more time choosing the right word, making a better rhyme - hence, I will slow down. Also, I read hundreds of songs/poems picking one that I'll translate; and I choose not to propagate trash. Sometimes, I go and find songs and artists not yet in LT - finding Tango for Paris and such - basically, looking for what allows me to translate something I like.
D,
I guess I can charge you double now $$$
And you both can call me Maria, Masha, if you want, though I don’t really care - хоть горшком называйте, только в печь не сажайте
сб, 08/12/2018 - 16:57BlackSea, I would LOVE to find some Russian songs worth translating into English. The problem is that there are no radio stations in the USA that play Russian music, so how would I know what is good? I can't google anything unless I know about it first. Are you suggesting that I just throw a bunch of Cyrillic letters into Google Music and hope to find something?! It doesn't work like that. Pretty much, you have to know what you're looking for before you search for it. AND, as for English music. Oh, don't get me started. IT'S SOOOOOO BAD NOW. There's nothing to listen to, but offensive and vulgar RAP songs (which I won't even transliterate), or trite, repetitive and stupid pop songs. The last song that wasn't absolutely horrendous (still bad, but at least it was something that I could listen to without needing an aspirin) was about 6 years ago. And, all my beloved classic songs of years-gone-by have already been translated.
So sad, even "Ken Lee (ee-libbean-ease-wihdabadabu)".
